THE AMHERST HOUSING AUTHORITY’S MISSION STATEMENT

1. To preserve and to expand decent, safe and affordable housing for low and moderate income households, elders, and persons with disabilities.

2. To support programs, services and resources that promote economic self-sufficiency, and improve community quality of life, tenant empowerment and responsibility.

3. To maintain quality of service delivery and ensure equal opportunity in housing.

4. To operate programs and deliver services that maximize financial and human resources while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

The Amherst Housing Authority is dedicated to providing quality housing to eligible households. The Authority is a public agency operated with state and federal funding and is overseen by a five member Board of Commissioners.

Application Process:
Applications may be downloaded from our website and completed by the applicant. All applications must be signed with an original signature and submitted to the Housing Authority. We do not accept faxed or emailed applications.

The following information is available and will be sent to you if you call the Amherst Housing Authority or if you email the request to the Authority:
  • Emergency Application packet for state-aided housing
  • Housing Assistance Contract
  • Section 8 Definition of Preferences
  • Request for Reasonable Accommodation form or
    Modification form
At times, the Authority may close waiting lists because of their length. If a link is disabled, it probably means that waiting list is closed. Please give the Authority a call at 413.256.0206 ext. 300 if you need clarification or current information on what waiting lists are open.
